Here’s the latest from the Aspley Hornets in regards to the football program and also the Licenced club following announcements from our sporting codes and the Federal government.
AFL Queensland announced yesterday, March 17, that all Community Football including Auskick will be postponed until May 31, 2020.
This means that no games, training or related football activities will be run by clubs, such as Aspley Hornets until May 31st.
We know that the AFL had to consider a lot of issues in making this decision, and as you are aware the Board and Management of the Aspley Hornets Football & Sporting Club LTD have been adapting as quickly as possible to the very dynamic situation we all are facing.
We’re disappointed as we are sure you are. Football people, you and us, love footy and look forward to it every year. Players, Staff, Supporter, Families, Sponsors and everyone who belong to the Aspley Family.
However, at this time we also know it’s in everyone’s best interest to follow all guidelines and regulations to contain all health concerns.
As a community club, our priority is that everyone in our Aspley Family stays safe. We will continue to share news and information on our website, through email and our social accounts. If you want to stay up to date please make sure you subscribe to these. We’ve added links at the bottom to each of our channels so you can pick which one best suits you.
Licenced Club Update:
The good news is that our licenced club is still open and able to serve our members and guests.
The government has placed restrictions on the number of people that can be inside our venue, which is 100. This will include staff as well as guests.
All of our facilities are still open within normal trading hours. Including our bars, cafe, bistro and gaming room.
We’ve made the following adjustments to ensure our Club is a safe and hygienic space you can enjoy.
Restriction on Numbers
Due to the new government regulations limiting the number of people in our club to 100 we will have a member of staff at the front doors. They will be managing numbers within the club. Should we reach our limit we will ask new arrivals to wait until someone leaves. Please be patient with our team as this is new to them as well.
Increased cleaning of gaming areas
We increased the cleaning routines in our gaming areas in February and have increased this further. During our opening hours, you will notice our team members regularly cleaning all gaming area surfaces and machines are maintained at a high level of cleanliness. Individual wipes are available to all members to clean for themselves, please just ask if you cannot locate anywhere you are seated.
Increased space around the venue
With the guideline of maintaining social distancing as the best course of action, we have modified the inside of the venue by;
- Removing some tables from the bistro area and ensuring adequate space around all tables so you can enjoy your meal comfortably.
- All other seating areas have had increased spacing created for the same reasons
- We have removed every second chair in the gaming areas to create more space. Chairs can be moved to the machine of choice and we will manage the spacing accordingly.
Food handling & safety
Our team members always use the best practice in food handling and safety procedures, including gloves for all people working around food. We will be implementing other safety procedures as required in this area.
All bar staff will be wearing gloves as part of our increased safety measures.
Removal of cutlery, straws and condiments from open-air environments
Cutlery will be wrapped and provided at the service counters when you place your order, or on request. Straws and condiments will also be kept out of open-air environments and will be provided as requested at the time of service. This will reduce the risk of airborne contaminants.
Like many organisations, we are waiting for our additional supplies of hand sanitiser to be available. We do have hand sanitiser available around the club and will provide more as our orders are delivered. Our bathrooms are cleaned very regularly and there is always soap and hand towels available in there for you to clean your hands.
We have increased the cleaning within the kids room to ensure all surfaces are kept as clean as possible. The kids room will remain open for the foreseeable future, but recognise that it’s your decision as to whether to let your children play there or not.
The Club is open and we look forward to being able to provide you with a social outlet over the coming weeks and months, and we will continue to make adjustments as needed to ensure your safety and hygiene while visiting with us.
If you have any questions about opening hours and access to the club please contact us at reception so we can assist you.

After careful consideration of the current situation surround the Covid-19 situation, the Board of the Aspley Hornets Football & Sporting Club has decided to temporarily suspend all training for all our teams until we receive further advice from AFLQ.
We believe our duty lies in ensuring the ongoing health and well being of all our members and while the situation unfolds differently for everyone we believe this is a prudent step to take at this time.
It is our hope this will help to relieve any immediate concerns our players, parents and volunteers might have in regards to attending training and allows them to focus for the immediate short term on their work and family commitments.
As and when we have more information about the season overall we will communicate changes about the way the season will unfold.
