High Performance is a Goal

ASPIRATIONAL footballers have the opportunity to make it through to the highest level in the sport through a new initiative at Aspley Hornets Football Club.

The club has started the Hornets High Performance Program which aims to help footballers achieve their potential. Football operations coordinator Matthew Argus said the initiative followed the appointment of the club’s third full-time football administrator. “This new role will help us continue to grow the junior and senior programs at the club,” Mr Argus said. “The new role will also have a strong development focus for both players and coaches to ensure that we are providing the best possible football environment for our players.” Mr Argus said the club, which was established in 1964, continued to be at the forefront for participation numbers for all levels of football for both men and women.“Our Junior program is one of the strongest in Australia and continues to grow, with over 500 registered players in 2019.

“Our football footprint is ever growing at the Hornets. Due to our high player numbers we have two additional fields at our Brendale facility, offering first class facilities for our players and their families.

“The growth in women’s football is something we are extremely excited about. 2019 was our womens team’s first year in the QAFLW state league. This is the highest level of football available for females outside of the AFLW in Queensland.

“Our NEAFL side have established themselves as the most elite team outside the AFL in Brisbane. “We have participated in finals for the last seven seasons which has included playing in three Grand Finals. “Our ability to both promote Junior development and attract high profile recruits has allowed us to remain extremely competitive in a competition that includes four AFL Reserves sides – Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast Suns, GWS Giants and Sydney Swans.

“The club now caters for the full range of football from age 6 years with NAB Auskick, through to Super Rules for the over 45s. The club also caters for the ever growing female football market with three youth girls teams and two senior womens teams.” The clubhouse business has grown in line with football operations. The newly renovated facility boasts a large bistro, members’ lounge, sports bar and lounge bar, bottle shop, a café area, function rooms, al fresco dining, 167 poker machines, Keno and TAB facilities Registrations are now open for all teams and ages. A season launch and open day will be held at the club on Saturday, March 14 from 4.30pm.
